Along with the presentation of the wing Galaxy Nexus, Google officially unveils the new version of Android, 4.0 and codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be the first device to mount the Samsung Nexus Google Galaxy, and it’s raining there. But what other smartphones will host the new « ice cream »?. For now, there has been no official confirmation and we do not know exactly what smartphones currently on the market can upgrade to the ICS, but some information is circulating in the network, even if in theory we believe that all (or almost) Gingerbread smartphones or other models latest update may be of potential candidates, all decisions are the manufacturer and any time of personalization.
Widgets / Folders
ICS introduces a new model for folders, and widgets. The widgets tab it is easy to find, just a bare drag & drop to place it on any home screen.
Even changing the folders feature and method of disposal: in this case just a simple drag & drop to create a folder, or overlay two applications to automatically create a new. For example, a folder may contain a list of contacts for quick calls and messages.
Multitasking
In addition to the functionality multiprocessuale operating system, Android 4.0 integrates a new multi-task-switcher, similar to that present in Android Honeycomb. Applications to close at a touch occurs, as happens on most third-party task manager.
Screenshots
Finally introduces the ability to natively take screenshots of the Android smartphone screens. Up to now this fact was only possible with external applications that require root permissions. Some manufacturers however have their own integrated this function (like HTC, LG and Samsung) enabling some gestures and commands.
Notifications
The notification system undergoes a redesign, not only in terms of graphics, but also functional. It remains the classic drop-down menu (which featured Android, and then taken up by iOS 5 and Symbian Belle), but introducing new icons and function. Notifications fact have a much more elegant, with redesigned icons. You can also remove the notifications that do not interest us with a simple gesture (already seen on Cyanogen). The drop-down controller also integrates a handy music, pre calmly handle the media player. The notifications are then accessible from the lockscreen.
Roboto Font
ICS also introduces a new font. Roboto then takes the post of DroidSerif: a font much more elegant, geometric, modern.
Browser
The web browser now introduces options that we all want, and that we could enjoy some with third-party browsers. The web browser ICS 4.0 finally introduces tabbed browsing, which can be saved for offline viewing and consultation: the web page is then cached. Introduced at last able to sync our bookmarks on Chrome and import these automatically on our Android 4.0. And finally, the native ability to set the user agent mode smartphone or desktop.
Gmail
The Gmail client undergoes significant changes, which improve the navigation of email and their consultation. We first introduced an upper bar, action bar, which contains all the main features that Gmail offers. Secondly, Swype gestures are enabled to move from email to another simply swiping left or right. And finally, the new Gmail allows you to store emails for reading in the absence of connectivity for at least 30days.
Calendar
The calendar features a new interface, perfectly integrated with ICS. Again some gestures are enabled Swype, to improve navigation and experience.
Settings
The application adds a new option to Settings, Data Usage Controls, or control of the use of data connectivity. The application as well as showing information about daily and monthly consumption, allows you to set a maximum threshold, which if exceeded, and alerts the user when blocking connectivity so useful for frequent surfers in 3G mode, and must be monitored the threshold weekly / monthly tax from your contract.
Camera
The photo department has never been among the best, especially on devices with ROM AOSP. ICS could finally make a change: finally introduces the zero option shutter lag, the photos in landscape mode, and also the ability to zoom in video shooti
Gallery
The new gallery replaces the old 3D Gallary, however, by introducing new fiunzionalità: ICS fact that large previews, which can also show the tags and other information. There is also a powerful photo editing, to add special effects to your photos.
Contacts
And finally the application has a profound renewal of contacts, not so much a functional level, but as for the graphics. These gestures that characterize all Swype Android 4.0, but now the contacts have a more defined: it will no longer be present thumbnails of contacts grenades and poorly defined. The images and photos of contacts will be so high-definition and will be visible when you make a call or dedicated widgets.
The new course does not stop there. Many others were put in Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but we will see in more detail below all the other features and functionality.
Finally, Google has already released on the new site developer SDK, version 4.0 , which will then update and create applications compatible with the new version of Android.
