HTC Radar: Windows 7.5 Mango in a decent all rounder package

Ever since Microsoft unveiled Mango, or Windows Phone 7.5 mobile OS, Smartphone industry has been abuzz with speculations regarding its prospects. Finnish mobile giant Nokia has unveiled a couple of its Lumia handsets running Mango OS already. Not to be felt behind in Smartphone segment, HTC has released a contender running this spanking new mobile OS, named Radar.

HTC Radar follows its powerful and feature packed sibling, Titan, and has its plus points to woo the users. With its smart and solid unibody design, impressive media features and commendable performance, Radar can appeal to gadget freaks and corporate users alike. At 137gms, the HTC Radar is not much light but it has a superb build quality. It may also remind you of the Google Nexus One, which incidentally, was made by HTC a couple of years back.  However, there are some prominent changes in its design. There is no trackball and three soft keys in front are present.
You can insert a SIM card at a place in its bottom but the phone will restart during the process. One big caveat with HTC Radar is that you cannot add external memory. Out of its 8 GB inbuilt memory, 6.54 GB is available for users and you have no choice than cramming in all your media files within this boundary. Some people may not also like the fact that it does not come with a removable battery.
In case you are wondering, how Windows Phone 7.5 OS runs on the Radar, be assured to get a smooth, lag-free interface. The phone’s screen is occupied by blocks called live tiles. With it, you can always get updates on social networking profiles without accessing sub-menus. For Android or iPhone users, it may take some time getting used to this tile experience. However, once you get the hang of it, you would not opt for others! HTC users who have used Android models will miss HTC Sense as Windows Phone models cannot be used with overlay but there is HTC Hub. Mango OS supports multitasking which heavy users will certainly appreciate. But the display of HTC Radar is something where it scores most of the points. When I try to browse my coupon blogs that has the best offer on gneil.com and prweb, it scores a perfect ten. The interface is not grainy and haziness is something you are least likely to face at this magic device.
As far as web browsing goes, HTC Radar scores well with a revamped version of IE 9 in-built. Pages load rather quickly and text reflow works well too. Flash support is missing in HTC Radar but considering Adobe itself has put an end to future Flash mobile development; it is not a deal breaker! This phone also comes with a Microsoft voice search facility named TellMe, which offers moderate level of accuracy.
When it comes to media features, HTC Radar turns out to be a mixed bag. Its 5 MP camera, aided by LED Flash and Autofocus, takes decent quality images. However, with so many smart phones featuring 8 MP sensor resolution, you might think twice before grabbing this beauty. Its camera app comes with plenty of settings and it can record 720p HD video too with decent sharpness and natural colour levels. Its sound quality, like premium HTC phones, is reasonably good.
